About this Blog

Everytime I told people I was going to Guinea Bissau I got a, "Where's that?", or a "Sorry, my geography is not that good." To be honest, I probably wouldn't know where it is either if it wasn’t for both my dad and step-dad being from there.

My name is Aliesha Baldé and I am a recent college grad from California with a degree in Environmental Studies and Economics. After graduating I came to Guinea Bissau for 6 months to help my step-dad get started with working on the 350 hectare ranch he inherited, help organize with the annual cashew campaign (gathering and selling cashew nuts), and meet the members of my humungous family! The six month mark has come and gone and we are still here, no longer as visitors, but as residents living the Bissau- Guinean life!

I am writing this blog to share my experiences here so that it might demystify what Guinea Bissau is about, from my perspective at least.
